Recent research has indicated that, although young people under 35 are able to gather information quickly, they do so superficially because they belong to the web generation. Their acquisition is highly tuned but their retention and ability to make comparisons are impaired. The new generation is likely to be more adaptable but will need support to retain and manage information with systems provided by organisations. The principal proposition for universities is that they encourage people to learn continuously and engage in deep analysis to develop their ideas.
