Thus, there is a need for more research. Section 3 argues that the knowledge to be developed and integrated can be approached from three theoretical frameworks (paradigms) for the design of production systems. These frameworks are dealing with: - the workflow through the production system (to be discussed in Section 4) - the structure of the primary resources (to be discussed in Section 5) - the organization of decision making (to be discussed in Section 6).
