The Montura Dining Room is located in the old stone stables of the Page 18 former Otero Ranch. Live music and dancing are provided on weekends. Thirty miles south of Tubac lie the twin cities of Nogales, one in Arizona and one across the border in Mexico. By far the larger of the two communities is Nogales in Sonora, Mexico. Crossing the border, one steps immediately into a quintessential Mexican border town, designed to satisfy a tourist's every whim. Colorful open-air shops line virtually every street.
The food is usually cooked outdoors over an open fire. BBQ is commonly the entrée of choice, although steak runs a close second, and both are garnished with substantial helpings of baked beans, corn on the cob, and a baked potato. A salad often is included, and, of course, dessert. Diners serve themselves. The food goes onto a metal plate; the beverage, into a metal drinking cup. Guests sit at long wooden picnic tables. Tanque Verde Guest Ranch (see Romantic Places to Stay above) offers an excellent chuckwagon cook-out.
